Something New, Someone Different

Something New, Someone Different

Last week’s verse got me thinking….

(Review: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17) It got me thinking about teenagers (like you) who are surrounded by other kids almost every day. Everyone wants to be accepted by others. Everyone wants to be part of a group. Some people like to stand out and like the attention. Others prefer to blend into the crowd.

If you have decided to believe in Jesus and let Him direct your life, you are uniquely different than the rest. Whether you’re the quiet or the boisterous type, it is obvious that there is something inherently different about you. Something new and not like everyone else. People will notice—it’s inevitable. Your perspective is different than others’ now, and so your words and actions are different, too. I want to encourage you: Continue being who you are and don’t be afraid when others notice that you are different. It is a difference that is beautiful in God’s eyes. Whether or not you are accepted, well, that’s not your problem. Focus on what’s between you and God. He’ll take care of you!

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
