Steak

Steak

My son, Luke, just loves putting things in his mouth. He gums everything in sight, from toys, paper, books, faces...you get the idea. Recently, he's been having some diffculty with his age-old hobby.  He's begun teething.  My happy-go-lucky little man sometimes has a hard time understanding that it hurts when he tests something out with hsi mouth. After a while, we finally could see a tiny white speck pushing through his bottom gums. We were so proud of his advancement and excited that he was going to get a reprieve from the pain he'd been experiencing!

A couple days later, he acted as if he was in pain again. We soon noticed he had yet another tooth coming. Luke was back to having pain. Soon he'll have yet another tooth and perhaps more of a break - until the next tooth.

A friend's husband told their teething son it was "one step closer to eating steak!" Yum - Steak is so much more yummy than the squishy pureed veggies he'd been having. While this sounds super exciting to me, Luke has no idea what that means. He just knows he's in pain.

This is a lot like our walk with Christ? Growing pains are difficult physically, as well as spiritually.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Though Luke has no idea what steak tastes like or how fun it will be to bite into a juicy apple, I do. I don't like seeing him go through pain, but I am excited knowing what's next for him.

God not only has plans for us, but good plans... AWESOME plans! Though following Christ is not always easy. It may seem as soon as one trials ends, another begins and it can get really hard, but stick with it! In the end, you'll be saying goodbye to yucky baby food and eating the STEAK God's got for you! (or an apple for you veggie people) :D
